September Odds and Ends

It has been so fun to watch Gavin grow and develop his own personality. He is a very independent boy and loves to do things that we do. He loves to drive the car and play 'peek' (Peek-a-Boo). He was kind enough to hold off the terrible two's until this month (I've heard most kids start around 18 months), and boy are they fun! His specialty is letting you know he's upset by screaming in your face. He's been pretty easy to handle up to this point, so I consider ourselves lucky to have such mild outbursts, in comparison to some kids I've seen.

Gavin still loves the water and tries to get into it any chance he can get. I made the mistake of letting him run around naked while getting wet, so any time we went outside he'd strip down and try to turn the hose on. I knew it was a waste of water to do that very often so I decided to fill up a 5 gallon bucket for him instead. He wasn't happy about it at first, but then he realized he could get in it like a swimming pool. He loved it so much that we did it two days in a row. I couldn't resits taking pictures of his cute little bum!

We found a toddler bed online for a great price so we bought it for Gavin. We set it up it in his room so he could get used to it until we decided to transition him over. The first time he saw it he ran to it and started to play on it. When I put him down for his nap I asked if he wanted to sleep in the bed or the crib and he said bed so that's what we did. He has slept in it, with a few exceptions here and there, since we put it up. He fell out a few times so I put  a pool noodle under his fitted sheet and we've had complete success since! We were ready for a battle when we did transition him over, but I'm so glad that he was ready to do it himself so we didn't have to fight with him. Hopefully he won't revert back once Ava is born. Our fingers are crossed!
He's started to sleep with blankets over his head so we've had to be really careful to only give him breathable ones. He's such a little goof! The other day he woke up from a really long nap with two perfect hand prints on his stomach.

Do you spy that really dark hair? I do, and I almost cried when I found it. I think our little blondie is darkening up :(

Swiss Days Parade

On September 29th we went to the Swiss Days parade to see Caleb play the bass drum in the SCMS marching band. We were in the best spot and got tons of candy. Santa Clara definitely knows how to do parades! Gavin loved watching all the big trucks, especially the garbage truck and he loved getting a balloon. Once he got it he wouldn't take his eyes off of it for more than a few seconds.

Baby Tyler Gage

Cori, Matt, and Jackson welcomed baby Tyler Chris on Sept. 26th! He was such a big boy, weighing in at 9 lbs 3 oz. We are so excited to have another little one in our family!

Toe Trail

On Sept. 22nd, my mom, the boys, Gavin, and I went on a hike called the Toe Trail in Ivins. Gavin ran almost the whole time and wore himself out! He loved crawling through the cave and exploring anything he could. On the way back he got super tired and we had to carry him to the car. He didn't even make it more than 10 minutes in the car before he was zonked out. Notice the drool in the last photo! What a cute kid!

Lake Day

We have spent a lot of time at the lake this summer and we decided to squeeze at least one more time in before the weather turns cold. It's always fun to get together and goof around. I'm glad I've got such a great family!

Kokopelli Sprint Triathlon

On September 15th Colby competed in the Kokopelli Triathlon. This was his first one so we were a bit nervous to see how it would go. The night before we went to Brick Oven with my family. Colby thought it would be funny to shave his beard into a mustache to see who would notice. I think everyone did but they were afraid to say anything. He looked like a creeper so he shaved it when we came home.

Colby left really early the morning of and we met him there just before his race started. We had to ride the shuttle into Sand Hollow and Gavin thought it was pretty cool, especially flirting with the little girl who sat near him. We didn't have much time before his race started so we just took a few pictures and let him prepare himself to start.
He was in the beginners division of the sprint so they were designated by bright pink caps during the swim. (He is the one sitting on the dock). Once the swim started we lost track of him since all you could see were little pink heads bobbing in the water. He finished his 1/2 mile swim in 18:37. We were shocked to see him come out of the water so quickly.
He transitioned from the swim to the run in 2:26 and he was off. Luckily he rented a road bike for the race or else he would have been riding on his mountain bike. He finished his 12 mile bike portion in 51:11. This was the worst part for us to wait for... there wasn't any shade and we didn't bring sunscreen and I was nervous he might crash and I'd have no idea. Luckily Kylie, Janny, and Alexis were there to keep Gavin and I company and he returned from the bike portion unscathed.
He transitioned from the bike to the run in 1:26 and ran 3.2 miles in 30:46!
He crossed the finish line in 1:44:25! That is an amazing time! He was 200th overall and 9th out of 18 in his age division.
I am so proud of him and all the hard work he put into this race and training! I can now safely say that I am going to be a Tri wife for the rest of my life. Colby loved it and is already planning to possibly do another before the year is over.
