Gavin Joel White

Gavin's finally here! Colby and I were both resigned to the fact that he was going to come on 10-20-10 or later so I went to work that morning at the instacare (I am the only tech there on the weekends) as usual. My first patient was pretty difficult so I was moving her around quite a bit. I thought to myself that I might go into labor because of how difficult she was, but I wasn't having contractions so I just brushed it off. I worked hard until my coworker came in to relieve me so I didn't have to work a 12 hour shift. She is also doing ultrasounds so she took me in to get another look at Gavin and so she could get some practice on a pregnant person as far along as I was. When I left I told her that I hope I don't see her again soon, meaning that I would have Gavin soon, especially since I was dilated to an 3+ and 90-100% effaced for 3 weeks. We both laughed and I went home and relaxed *(Home as in Colby's parents- our main water line broke on October 2nd so we lived with them until October 22nd while it was getting fixed)* Colby and I went to bed as usual that night and I got up around 1:15 am having a contraction. I got up to walk it off and it was so severe that I had to lean on the door frame to our bedroom to have it pass. Colby saw this and went into hyper-mode. He led me back to the bed and started to time my contractions. They were 5 minutes apart and I felt like something was happening. I went to use the restroom and my water broke, well I thought it had anyway. We got all of our stuff and went up to wake up Colby's parents so I could get a blessing before we left. We got in the car and before we were more than a block away my water really broke so I knew this was the real thing. We made it to the hospital and got checked in by about 2 am and my parents arrived shortly after. They told us that they couldn't sleep (as well as my older sister Janny) because they knew Gavin was going to come tonight. I guess Colby and I missed the memo. I was at an 8 and full effaced by this time and ready to get our little boy here.

Colby was such a good help during labor and delivery. He is one of the reasons that I was able to go without medications, well except Zofran for nausea. I had an amazing nurse, Patty, who let me move and walk around as I needed to. It helped so much to not be stuck on my back the whole time.
I labored for 5 hours and pushed for 30 minutes. It was totally worth every ounce of pain and embarrassment and I would do it again in a heartbeat!

Great-Grandma Bybee stopped by a few days later and we are so glad she did!

Life has been crazy lately, but I have enjoyed being able to be a mom and see Colby be a wonderful dad who is truly in love with his little boy. I am excited to be an eternal family and to be able to have such a wonderful, well-mannered little guy.
